Scale-Studies for Violin

小提琴音階練習

BY Dr. Ka Chun Leung

This comprehensive book offers a structured approach to scales and arpeggios for beginner and intermediate violin students. It is divided into three progressive sections: 5-note scales across all four strings, one-octave scales and arpeggios, and two-octave scales and arpeggios.

The first section is designed for students in their initial three months of learning, focusing on developing stable intonation for natural notes and mastering basic full-bow strokes. The second section introduces simple one-octave scales and arpeggios in keys ranging from natural to three sharps or flats, ideal for students in their first year of study. The final section covers two-octave scales and arpeggios in all 24 major and minor keys, with arpeggios extending to the second inversion, suitable for students preparing for ABRSM Grade 6 or equivalent.

Carefully curated scales and fingerings guide students in achieving precise intonation and seamless string crossings. A companion demonstration video will soon be available to enhance learning. This book, along with the video, is provided free of charge to all students of Dr. Leung.
